Bring more laughter into your life with these suggestions.
- Believe there’s an upside to everything — look for the funny things all around you. People who laugh have a more positive outlook on the world and are generally in a better mood. Take laughter seriously.
- Fake the laughter until you feel like laughing. Scientific studies have proven that your body doesn’t know the difference between fake and real laughter. So fake it to you make it.
- Engage with others in activities that generate laughter – yell out very good, very good, Yeah. Share your favourite laughter yoga exercises, share funny stories, be child-like. A friend of mine and I hid behind and inside some tree branches and giggled like little girls while people walked by.
- Make eye contact with others – start smiling and then create a gentle laugh. Turn up the volume of your laughter until you are laughing out loud. Everyone around you will join in. Eye contact is important to connect you to other people.
- If you just can’t get started smiling, hold a pencil between your lips, with the tip of the pencil pointing to your left. This forces your mouth into a smile. If you sit like that for a few minutes and don’t feel like laughing, go look at yourself in the mirror. If you still don’t feel like laughing just fake it!
- Keep happy company. If there are people in your life who bring you down, avoid them if at all possible. Dr. Gene Landrum, talks about studies that put optimists and pessimists together. After a short period of time, the optimists were less optimistic and the pessimists more positive in their outlook. The lesson is that if you want to feel better, get with happy people; if you stick with morose, depressed people, you are going to feel worse.
- Be brave. Take the risk to be silly from time to time. Wear a crazy hat or shirt, and don’t worry about what other people think. If you’re a habitual laugher, you’ll probably outlive them!
- Spend time with children. Go to a splash park or another place children play. Children laugh on an average of 400 times a day, they laugh because it feels good. It’s also contagious.
- Invite a friend over to watch funny movies.
- Grab a coffee, tea, bubble tea smoothie and walk the boardwalk with a friend or by yourself.
- Get yourself outside and enjoy each moment. Smile or say hi to those around you, allow yourself to ask how their day is going, what a beautiful day it is. Connect with the animal kingdom, birds of flight, children, or just grab a book and take in all the pleasures of being outside has to offer.
11. Begin a new hobby that you have been putting off.
Every night before you fall asleep, replay in your mind the good moments of the day, and give heartfelt thanks for each one of them. Think about the next day also, and intend that it is going to be amazing, that it is going to be filled with love n’ joy, and that all good is coming to you. Intend that it is going to be the best day of your life. Then when you wake in the morning, BEFORE you get out of bed, declare your intentions again for the day and give deep thanks as though you have received them all.
Haha have a haphap happy day!
