“When I was Just a Little Girl, I Asked My Mother What will I Be!”
July is finally here and I am so pumped for all the summer weather activities.
When I was a little girl I loved playing in my neighbourhood outdoor pool. For some, you may remember Huntington Park on Broker Drive off Upper Ottawa St. in Hamilton, ON.
It had 5 slides that plunged you into 4 feet of freezing cold water. BRRRRRR!!!
Only the craziest of the kids, and that was all neighboring children, took our daily plunge screaming and running back for more.
I lived across the street growing up and every summer I would set up a lemonade stand. Probably sold a glass for 5 cents.
On a bike ride the other day I saw 2 girls selling lemonade for 50 cents.
I was always the “Supee’s favourite” cause I always wanted to help her. My dearest and closest friend Dea WAS my teenager supervisor (supee) and I adored her! AND still do!
That’s laughter crazy!
In the fall we would ride our bikes around the walls of the pool, slides having been removed and roller skate down the steep decline of the pools perimeter.
In the winter we would grab our sleighs and toboggan down the hill that served as the retaining wall of the pool.
I can picture this great childhood experience with much clarity.
I even took my children to my childhood playground of great joy and memories.
Before my children were old enough to go down the slides they tore it down and built the new design that you see all across Ontario.
You know the ones with the sprinkler systems. Fun, but not the same.
(If anyone has a picture of it please email it to me.)
Memories we are made of, laughter, friends, being silly and free of worries. Tap into, jump into and play like you did when you were a child and RE-MEMBER with much enthusiasm!!!!!
Here’s what she said to me.
“Que sera, sera”
